‘A truly world-class centre for science, innovation, learning and enterprise’

Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan

British Library, NW1

We are proud to be investing in the expansion of one of the UK’s most important cultural institutions

Located at the heart of London’s Knowledge Quarter at St Pancras, the development combines a unique integration of national cultural institution, major transport infrastructure and grand scale workspaces for science, tech and related business.

The design relates to the Grade 1 listed surroundings of the original British Library, and St Pancras Station, and is immediately adjacent to the Frances Crick Institute, UK’s leading bioscience research institution.

A major new entrance to British Library site is created to the north, with public access to new exhibition galleries and event spaces, business support services, and a learning centre for schools and families. A major public foyer integrates the new Library precincts with the commercial workspaces above.

The site is opened up for public access on both Midland Road to the east, Ossulston Street to the west, and along Dangoor Walk to the north.

The extension will provide 600,000 sq ft of commercial space for organisations looking to make their base within the Knowledge Quarter to help create a thriving ecosystem for science and innovation in the UK.

The scheme will also support the regeneration of the local area with new learning and employment opportunities and a £23 million contribution towards affordable housing in Somers Town.
